Have you ever cooked a meal in someone else’s home? If you have you will know that no two ovens are exactly the same. Whether we realise it or not we all get used to our own oven and how it works. For example a twenty minute cooking time at 200 degrees Celcius might lead to a perfect dish in your own oven, and yet in someone else’s it will still only be half cooked.
This means that when you come to buy a brand new built in oven you need to be prepared to get to know it from scratch. This doesn’t have to be a challenging experience though. If you can exercise some caution when you buy your new built in oven you shouldn’t have many problems at all.
Firstly you need to bear in mind that it is a good idea to hang around while the food is cooking – at least to begin with, until you get used to how the oven cooks things. You might think twenty minutes in your old oven is the same as twenty minutes in your new oven. But if the new oven is more efficient it could finish the cooking process after fifteen minutes – and twenty minutes could easily lead to a burnt dinner.
Of course some instances will lead to more differences in the cooking time than you would get otherwise. For example if you have been used to a gas oven and you have bought a fan assisted electric oven you will definitely notice the difference. The same applies to using a fan oven after having a standard electric oven which doesn’t have a fan. You will always notice a difference in the cooking times as well as in the way the food itself is cooked.
The same applies to a very old oven as compared to a brand new one. An old oven may only cook in a very basic way, with the heat rising to the top of the oven more than the bottom. But with different heating elements that you can control in a new oven, you will find that you can take more control over the way you cook food.
For all the benefits you will get, you still have to get used to using your new built in oven in the best possible way. Enjoy the journey!
